Birthday Weekend Part 2

So.......the rest of the weekend went like this.......

Friday after we hurried and traded the beds around Cambria and I left because we were going to the 4:40 showing of "Shorts". It is definitely a movie for kids, but it was still entertaining. Cambria cracked up a couple of times and kept repeating her favorite lines throughout the night.

After the movie we had dinner at Taco Time (Cambria's choice). There we had a lively conversation about the movie and our plans for the rest of the night.

We then made a trip to Walmart (were else?) and bought the fixin's for banana splits and some other treats to tide us over until Saturday.

At home we both played on the computer. One of Cambria's favorite things to do is pull up the music she likes on You Tube and then show me the dances that her and her cousin Shay make up to them. Then we made our banana splits and got in our jammies and headed downstairs. We then watched "The Wizards of Waverly Place Movie". Cambria had been waiting for this and there was even a countdown on the Disney Channel.

Cambria was the first one to try out sleeping on the mattress and she thought is was quite comfy. In fact she said that there probably wasn't enough room for Braxton and Gunner to sleep on it. Yea right it's a full size....I told her we could always turn it sideways and so she then demonstrated how close her feet were to hanging over the edge.

I slept on the couch (yes, I know I had a new bed just waiting for me) but it was just Cambria and I felt like since it was a sleepover we should be in the same room. I made it until about 2am and then I could not find a comfortable position on that couch so I headed upstairs and threw a sheet on the bed (I hadn't had time to make it we had been so busy) and gave it a try.....I was in HEAVEN!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately the new bed didn't help me to sleep in past 7 (it's my curse) and Cambria was up about a half hour behind me. We then went to Bert's Cafe for breakfast. I had my favorite..Johnson's Hash browns and a scone with honey butter.

We went to the Distribution Center and I bought her first scriptures that I will officially give her next Saturday when she gets baptized and confirmed. I just wanted her to pick out what color she wanted. Then we stopped by the book store and dropped them off so I could have her name engraved on them.

Leslie came and picked her up about noon to take her to lunch. Then I went out to Tremonton for her cake and ice cream party.

One of the highlights of the party was actually after everyone went home but me. Braxton who is a huge Transformer fan got on the computer and pulled up Linkin Park's "New Divide" Transformer Video for me to see. Well the minute the video started Gunner came running up and jumped up on the stool next to Braxton and started rocking out. Head banging, screaming, standing on the stool and dancing and doing something with his hands that may or may not have been a 2 year old's version of air guitaring. It was hilarious. Braxton and Gunner both rocking out and both of them were singing the lyrics along with the video. I had Braxton play it again and grabbed Leslie's camera and took pictures and videoed it. I hope she can post it on her blog because it was priceless.

They were taking Cambria and 2 of her friends to the rodeo. Paul, who is a born and raised Tremonton boy got all "Cowboy'ed up". He only does this every year for the rodeo and sometimes when they go to certain concerts. He looked great but I think that he felt bad because no on else was dressed accordingly. Leslie being the good wife and sport that she is, changed her clothes to the closest thing she had to cowboy. Paul was putting on his cowboy boots and Braxton who has to be just like dad asked Leslie if he could put on his snow boots. She of course said no that they were not cowboy boots and he insisted that they looked just like cowboy boots....really they look just like snow boots. That just goes to show you how much like his dad he wants to be.

I'll be placing bets that next year for the rodeo both Braxton and Gunner have cowboy gear to wear like their dad.

Sunday I went to church. I didn't have to play the organ but I did have to accompany Michelle. It went very well. "Be Still My Soul" is such a pretty song and her sweet soprano voice made it even prettier. One of my favorite families spoke in Sacrament meeting. The Simpson's, I have had their 2 oldest in Primary and I have Sophie this year in my class that just leaves the youngest that I haven't taught. Michelle was my visiting teacher for many years and we have become great friends. The talks were good, especially Michelle and her husband's. They talked about adversity in our lives and said some things that I needed to hear.

My new co-teacher Susan taught the lesson this week. She was great and the kids loved her. I had to help substitute playing the piano for Primary. Letty played for Junior Primary, while I was with my class and then I came down and relieved her and played for Senior Primary.

The rest of the day I just relaxed and recharged (and did my laundry). It was a fun filled non stop birthday weekend for both Cambria and I.

Birthday Weekend Part 1

I feel like the energizer bunny, except that I've been going, going, going, and I'm pretty sure my batteries are dead now.

Wednesday Michelle E. called me and asked me to accompany her this coming Sunday. Of course I can't say no and so she brought over the music. She is singing "Be Still My Soul". We set up a time on Thursday to practice together at 4:30. I thought this is doable because I get off at 4. Well it seems that Murphy's Law was in effect and I had a really busy day at work and got away late. She was standing at my door when I pulled in the driveway. The practice went well. We will get together Sunday morning before Sacrament meeting to run through it again.

Friday was my birthday. I have to tell you that I've been really struggling with my depression since all the happenings at work. My self worth and self confidence have hit a new all time low. I have always got through times of depression with the help of the counseling I had. I usually can pull myself out of it. This time it's been different and I've almost made an appointment so I could get something to help me but I haven't because I don't want to depend on drugs to make me feel better.

So anyway when I'm depressed I pull back and basically hide from the world and push people away. Which really makes it worse so then I get caught in a vicious cycle. I was really starting to think that no one would care what happened to me. It was so bad that I wasn't even playing the piano hardly at all, and that's one of the things that always helps me. The reason I'm telling you this is because of the things that happened on my birthday has helped dramatically in restoring my out look on myself and my life.

My day started out with me arriving at work and my dad called with his traditional happy birthday song. Then I skipped the morning meeting because I was in the middle of sending some emails. The next thing I knew was that all the associates that came to the meeting were coming in my office and then sang Happy Birthday to me and then as they left I was hugged by practically everyone.

Then I received a text from Jamie and one from Cambria. Leslie called after that and she, Cambria Braxton and Gunner sang to me. Then Gunner sang all by himself. It was the best and I wish I could have recorded it.

My friend Megan (hard ware department manager) came and gave me the hugest(is that a word?) bag of peanut m&m's (my favorite candy).

For lunch the backroom girls, Jan(claims supervisor), Connie (claims associate), Jade (UPC clerk), Megan (see above) and Michelle (GM receiving associate) who by the way is on leave of absence because she just had sinus surgery Monday but came anyway, took me to the new Mexican restaurant here in town (can't remember the name of it right now). The food was good and then all the waiters came out with a birthday cake (that Jan had given them before I got there) singing happy birthday in Spanish. The next thing I knew I had a sombrero on my head while they sang the song in English!

The cake was a chocolate truffle cake and was so yummy. We were all full but managed to eat a small slice before going back to work. I work with some great girls. Even though I've only worked closely with them for 3 months they have become better friends than the people I thought were my friends who hardly talk to me anymore.

When I got back to work there was another big bag of peanut m&m's on my desk from James our co-manager.

About a half hour before I was supposed to get off, I got another phone call from my dad. When I answered he shouted "Happy Birthday!" I said "Dad, we've already done this today." He said "How do you like your present?" I said "Dad, I'm still at work." He said "Oh, when do you get off?" I said "Four o'clock like always." He said "oh okay I'll call you later." ??????????????????

Earlier in the day I called Leslie to let her know that I would come out after work to pick up Cambria for our girls night birthday sleepover. She told me that she was going to Salt Lake to pick up my present and would probably be at my house when I got off because it was too big to take to her house and then back to my house later. Well that and the phone call from dad had just put my curiosity into overdrive. So I left a few minutes early because I had to get home to see what was going on.

As I was getting into my car Les called to see where I was because she had forgotten the key to my house and they were waiting and plus she needed to know what I wanted done with it???????

When I pulled around the corner there was Leslie and Paul and the kids sitting in the car port with a mattress and box spring in the back of their truck. I was so surprised. This was a joint gift from my Mom, Dad, Charles, Debbie (and I understand it was her idea), Angel, Jamie, Leslie and Paul and the grandchildren.

When I opened the back door there was a birthday card in between the screen and the door from the Primary presidency with a coupon for an ice cream from Peach City.

They quickly moved my old bed out and put the new bed in. I had them take the old mattress downstairs. I will drag it out into the family room when the kids spend the night so they don't have to sleep in the cold basement floor.

When Cambria and I came back from our outing (I will expand in my next entry) There was another card and gift in my door from Jackie plus she had left me a message on my phone when we had come out of the movie. Carol came over this afternoon and gave me a flower and card and told me that she had bought us tickets to go see Jon Schmidt at Thanksgiving Point next Saturday for my birthday.

Then when I checked my emails and facebook and saw all the birthday greetings, I couldn't believe it.

Some of the things that happened were just small gestures but the total impact on me was huge.
I realized how lucky I am to have such great friends and family that don't give up on me even when I'm at my worst. I felt so much genuine love that my heart and spirit felt renewed after wallowing in the dark for the last 3 months.

County Fair

I've driven out to Tremonton 3 times so far this week.

Monday I went out after work because Leslie had appointments until 9 and so I went out to help. The kids were good. Gunner was bouncing off the walls, he was so full of energy. At one point in the evening Gunner went upstairs for a minute and when he came back down he had taken his diaper off and was running free and easy. What is it with boys always wanting to be naked???? I had to chase him down to get a diaper back on him.

Today was the beginning of the Box Elder County Fair. Cambria was once again dancing in the parade so I being the good grandma that I am went out to support her. She was awesome as always. When she got back to us after she got done she told Les that she didn't want to dance in the parade next year because she was too hot. Well we'll see.

The parade is known as the candy parade because the people in the parade throw candy to the kids along the route. The kids love this and bring bags specifically for the gathering of the goodies thrown. It gives them enough candy to tide them over until Halloween if they're lucky.

The funniest thing that happened during the parade was at one point the people walking along the parade route were throwing ?fortune cookies? to the crowd. Braxton ran over to pick the one up in front of me and when he saw that it was a fortune cookie and not candy, grunted in disgust and threw it back on the ground.

Gunner loved the parade and the candy. He was eating it as fast as he could. When he goes to unwrap a piece of candy he doesn't use his hands like you think he would. He uses his teeth to pull the paper off and if there is still paper on the candy, oh well, it all goes in his mouth. I'm pretty sure he is in a sugar coma as I write this.

One of the other things you can get at the parade are Popsicles handed out by Kents Market. So you get a cool tasty treat while you sit in the hot sun watching the horses and tractors go by.

I left right after the parade. It is too crowded to go to the fair on parade day. I will probably go back out tomorrow night. I've got a few friends with pictures entered that I want to see and Dave J.'s band is playing tomorrow night. Plus there is all that great "Fair Food" just waiting to be eaten. Jade and I were talking at work today about all the great food you can get at the fair and we decided that they needed to come up with a "Tasters Ticket" so you could just buy a ticket and present it at every food boothe and get a sample of what they have.

When I got home, Carol H. came over with Le Ann to deliver a birthday card from the Relief Society Presidency and sang happy birthday to me even though it is a few days early. They are so funny. I was a little indisposed when they came to the door so I couldn't answer it right away. Well Le Ann was going to leave but Carol (who is getting braver by the day) just came to the back door and opened it and yelled for me. Which is a little different than usual because normally she just comes all the way in the house. Teaches me for not locking the doors when I get home. Le Ann thought this was quite bold of Carol because she has never before witnessed it. I asked her if she has met my crazy neighbor Carol. She said that she hadn't but was seeing a whole new side to her.

Have I told you what great neighbors I have lately?

Changes

So I figure....change is good (or so they tell me).

It's been an eventful week...

Tuesday was Jax's 10th birthday. After I got off work I headed to Jamie's for his birthday BBQ. It was an uneventful drive. My car was running smoothly and the traffic was light (you all know how I hate the freeway). All was well with the world until.....I pulled into the driveway of Jamie's apartment complex.

It was awful, the sound of metal grinding on metal. I quickly found the nearest parking place and turned off the car. I sat there for a moment contemplating what the h#%% just happened. I thought...maybe it was my imagination. I start the car up and everything sounds good until I shift into reverse and start to move then there it was that awful, make your teeth hurt noise.

I walked into Jamie's wondering how I was going to get home. Patrick (Jamie's boyfriend) met me at the door with a hug and asked me how I was. Well all I could do was start to cry and told him my car just died and I didn't know how I was going to get home...Hugs will do that to me, my emotions just come out. Well poor Patrick just looked at me and said "I'll go upstairs and get Jamie"....

Fortunately Jamie knows a lot of people with various talents so of course she has mechanics for friends. They came and while we were eating and relaxing they worked on my car. So what they found out was I guess there are 3 bars that come off the axle and connect the wheel? The middle one, the torq something or other had broken and wrapped itself around the upper bar on the front passenger wheel. He said he has seen this break in numerous Grand Ams but has NEVER seen it wrap around the upper bar. Yes leave it to me to be the first....

They got the broken part off and called one of the auto supply stores close by and told me the cost for the parts (he was going to replace the one on the drivers side too). He was going to charge me for the parts and $65 for his time. So after the party I got to take Jamie's Mitsubishi 3000 home.

I'm glad it waited until I got to Jamie's before breaking and that I had my family there to help me out. The Lord was really watching over me that day.

Jax's party was fun. Angel came and so did Leslie and her family. We just had hamburgers and hot dogs but food is always good when you are with the ones you love.

Driving Jamie's car was different. I have driven a stick shift since I was 19 and her car is an automatic. Well I kept wanting to shift and a few times both feet hit the brake. It has working air conditioning, ahhhhhh....... Mine hasn't worked for 4 years. Its started overheating my car when it ran and when I took it in they told me it would cost $400 to fix it. I asked them if it affected my heat and defroster. They said no and I left. I could stand the heat for a couple of months to save the money.

The rest of the week I was getting advice from friends and family as to what action to take concerning my car. I still don't know what I will do. I can't afford too much of a car payment and with the economy the way it is I'm a little leery to make such a major purchase. I know you all think I'm just being stupid, but I've been through the bankruptcy thing before and lost everything. I'm not to excited about being in debt any more than I am, especially since they have been cutting hours at work lately. It's going to take much prayer and pondering.

Saturday I drove Jamie's car back to her since mine was fixed. I spent a nice afternoon with her and the boys. I took them to Ihop for lunch (Jax's choice) and then we watched "Stepbrothers" and "Epic Movie" while the boys played. Trevon has had croup so he wasn't feeling great. Jax starts school Monday and is excited to go. Trevon will start preschool on the 8th of September.

Today church was cancelled (at least in Utah) because of the temple dedication. So I got the day off. I went out to Leslie's and spent time with her and the kids. She fixed us a yummy dinner. She showed me some neat websites on the computer for makeup and scrapbooking. Then we played Phase 10. Braxton wanted to play, but after the 3rd hand he lost interest and went to play. It was fun afternoon. At one point Braxton came downstairs in last years Halloween costume (Optimas Prime-Transformers for those of you that don't know) and went outside to play like that was a normal thing to do.

Today is my cousin Audrey's birthday, so I hope you had a happy fun filled day.
